Plan Your Print Bazaar Day

Artists will be spread out between 54 venues (!!!) on Cherokee, stretching a full mile between The Bricoleur at Louisiana to Bluewood Brewing at Lemp.

There are two main market hubs which feature holiday beverages and more than 20-30 artists under one roof: The Golden Record @ 2720 Cherokee — sponsored by Swade & Bomb Door @ 2623 Cherokee — sponsored by Pulitzer Arts Foundation. You can also pick up passports/maps for the day at both locations or at STL Stylehouse.

The artists at this year's event include storied STL printmakers like Dan Zettwoch and Brian Lathan, along with art students and vendors brand new to the bazaar! One of the new additions this year is none other than Son Volt frontman Jay Farrar who will be slinging prints from his personal collection of 25 years of Son Volt concert posters! Read about what he's bringing in the Riverfront Times.

You can get a preview of what each artists will bring to their table at cherokeeprintbazaar.com/artists. Not able to make the event - or missed a venue? The artist list will be live on our site until the end of December. Circle back after the Bazaar and shop from the artists with online shopping options!

Don't Forget: Your Shopping List, Cash or Debit Card & Walking Shoes

Between Cherokee Print Bazaar, the street's brick and mortar retail shops and food & drink establishments, you're bound to find something for everyone on your list. Plant lover? Head to Flowers & Weeds! Got a cowboy for a cousin? Swing on by Carrillo Western Wear!

And of course there's a mountain of options for art lovers, with 170+ participating Print Bazaar artists to choose from. The vast majority of our newfangled vendors accept card transactions but we recommend bringing cash or your debit card just in case. (Find a list of ATM locations in the passport to be picked up on the street on Saturday!)

Saturday's event features 1 mile of shopping and art. If you've already clocked your steps for the day and find that your dogs are barking, hitch a ride on the free trolley that will be making the rounds up and down the street. Flag the trolley down at any corner between Louisana and Deminil, or wait at the designated spots at Compton, Nebraska and Iowa.

Pro Tip: Get Stamps to Win a Prize!

In your passport, you'll find blank pages where you can collect stamps from each artist or venue. Collect 50 or more stamps and head to The Golden Record! The first 30 people that collect 50 stamps will win a prize they can select at the 2720 info desk.

Your Guide to Lo-Fi Cherokee 2023

Each Spring—and for one day only—our favorite businesses up and down Cherokee Street transform into music video sets for local bands.

Lo-Fi Cherokee is an electric event that features one-song performances from all types of local musical artists and projects, set against the backdrop of Cherokee Street storefronts and spaces. The performances are recorded by the team from Lo-Fi St. Louis, who then edit the sets into professional music videos to be unveiled to the community. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 8.

The best part? The public is invited. Lo-Fi Cherokee is a great excuse to visit the Cherokee Street neighborhood, check out local businesses, and enjoy a slice of the St. Louis music scene. We asked Bill Streeter, a local filmmaker and the creator of Lo-Fi Cherokee, to give first-time attendees the inside track of what to expect at the event.

Feel Free To Come And Go

The performances and filming sessions last all day, but you certainly don’t have to hang out for
hours. “We start in the morning, around 9:30 or 10 a.m.,” Streeter said. “We go until our lunch
break, and usually get five or six acts in before lunch, then take a lunch break to let the crew
regroup and hit it again.” The day normally goes until sundown. Find the latest updates and band announcements at Lo-Fi St. Louis's facebook page.)

2023 Schedule:

Expect Something Authentic

Streeter says the sets are totally open to the public, which gives music-lovers and curious onlookers a chance to see a more real side of their favorite musical acts. “As an attendee, you get to see behind the scenes, and it’s a great opportunity to see a band out of context,” he said. “You get an opportunity to see a pretty wide variety of music in a single day; you can see everything from a hip hop band to a rock band to bluegrass or jazz. It’s all original music; there’s no covers here.” If you’re comfortable, you might even be asked to star as an extra.

Snapshots from 2022 Lo-Fi Cherokee

Make a Day Of It

The day is about music, but it’s also about the businesses on Cherokee Street. Many shops or restaurants will offer Lo-Fi specials, and walking up and down the street is a great way to check out a new store or eatery. If you’re in the mood for shopping, find inspiration on the Cherokee Street Fashion Guide. For lunch ideas, check out An Insider’s Food Guide to La Calle Cherokee. “It’ll give you an opportunity to walk up and down Cherokee Street and check out some of the stuff that Cherokee Street has to offer besides just what we’re doing,” Streeter said.

“It’s just a nice day to spend on the street, and the bars and the restaurants, sort of get an opportunity to check out some of those places too.” While he’s a fan of all the restaurants on Cherokee Street, Streeter says he has a soft spot for local gem La Manganita.

Bring Your Energy

One of Streeter’s favorite parts of the event is watching bands feed off the audience’s energy. If you do pop by a set, try and let the music move you. Sarah Downen, who has been at the event both as an attendee and as a musical act with her band Golden Curls, agrees. “I would say put your phone down during the performances; sit back, enjoy, and be attentive,” she said.

Feel Free to Plan Ahead

While the event is open to the public—and no tickets are required—you can pre-register for Lo-Fi Cherokee on Eventbrite for a few extra perks including a limited-edition swag bag and the chance to purchase Lo-Fi apparel that can be picked up the day of the event.

Downen says a little pre-planning can also help music fans maximize their experience. “You could get the schedule beforehand and mark which acts you want to see, then catch as many as you can!” she said. “I think planning ahead and having a game plan is a great way to make sure you don't miss anyone you want to see. Maybe look up the musician's recordings beforehand so you're familiar with their art; it can be a lot more fun when you are already a fan of the project.” But both Downen and Streeter agree that showing up with no plan is just as valid—after all, the day is about experiencing something new.

Pack a Few Key Items

Streeter recommends good walking shoes for adventuring up and down Cherokee Street,
dressing for the weather, showing up with money for lunch, packing a water bottle, and coming
hungry.

Keep the Party Going

While filming wraps up around sundown, festivities on the Street continue well into the evening. New this year, Streeter says, will be the chance to hear some of the bands perform sets at venues on Cherokee Street. While the plans are still being finalized, he expects the after-party to be epic. Those sets will also be open to the public.

For attendees who want to view the final music videos, the Lo-Fi Cherokee Premier Party will be held on Sunday, May 28 at Off-Broadway, just steps from Cherokee Street. Tickets are $10 at the door. View videos from past year's events on Lo-Fi STL's Youtube Channel.

Cinco de Mayo Festival to Return on Saturday May 7th

St. Louis’s Cinco de Mayo festival will return to Cherokee Street on Saturday May, 7th 2022, after two years of in-person event cancellations due to the COVID19 pandemic.

The Cinco de Mayo festival on Cherokee Street began more than 15 years ago and is now organized by Cherokee Street Foundation — the street’s events nonprofit. In 2022, organizers plan to bring back many memorable features of Cherokee Street’s annual celebrations, including three music stages, food, drink & creative vendor booths featuring Cherokee St. businesses and other partners and the Lucha Libre wrestling ring. Community members also plan to host the People’s Joy Parade, traditionally on the same day.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing the Cinco de Mayo festival back in 2022,” said John Joern, co-organizer of the festival. “We heard from so many people over the past two years who were very sad that the festival wasn’t taking place in 2020 and 2021. It showed us how much the festival really means to St. Louisans and made us all the more excited to bring it back in 2022.”

The return of the festival is also a boost for Cherokee Street’s small businesses. “In years past, the Cinco de Mayo festival signified the largest sales day of the year for many of the street’s businesses. It means a lot for our district to be able to bring the event back and continue to shore up these businesses as they recover from the pandemic,” said Emily Thenhaus, director of the Cherokee Street Community Improvement District and Cherokee Street Foundation.

As festival plans get underway, festival organizers are working closely with the City of St. Louis Office of Special Events to ensure the event is held in accordance with the City’s COVID-19 health and safety regulations.

In 2020, the festival was cancelled in March after COVID19 shutdowns were announced and organizers pivoted to host a virtual Cinco de Mayo celebration in partnership with Do314. In 2021, the street hosted Taco de Oro: Cherokee Street’s Taco Bracket throughout the month of May in lieu of the festival to drive support to the street’s restaurants and bars.

For more information on Cinco de Mayo plans for 2022, see cincodemayostl.com and follow @CincoDeMayoSTL on Instagram and Facebook.
