According to the Gravois Jefferson Plan, the neighborhoods surrounding Cherokee Street have one of the highest concentrations of artists in the St. Louis region. With murals and music, design and dance, the role that artists and the arts play in the culture of our community cannot be overstated.

To support artists in our local community and to further add to the arts landscape on our street, the newly-formed Cherokee CID Arts Committee is issuing a call for artists to submit proposals for two funded permanent/semi-permanent public art projects to be installed this year.

The two categories are:

• Large Mural
  Location: western wall of 3124 Cherokee (El Leñador)
  Max Budget: $3000
  
• Mystery Public Art Project
  Max Budget: $1000
  This category includes art projects of that use public space (sidewalks, street space, green space, etc.) and can include a variety of mediums. We are open to your creative ideas.

This call is open to artists of any medium and from any location; however, preference will be given to neighborhood artists living in the 63118 zipcode and/or with ties to the Cherokee Street community.

Proposals will be due on August 7th and evaluated by the Cherokee CID Arts Committee, made up of community members and business owners with an interest in the arts. Any project that involves the use of private property will also be reviewed by the property owner.
